Description

Gabo loved Cartagena and Cartagena loved him, it only remains to look at the fragment of his autobiography Vivir para Contarla; “It was enough for me to take a step inside the wall of Cartagena de Indias to see it in all its grandeur in the mauve light of six o’clock in the afternoon. I could not repress the feeling of having been born again. So it’s no wonder that two of his novels take place there, Love in the Times of Cholera and Love and Other Demons, because the ghosts, stories and magic that Europeans called magical realism, in Cartagena is pure reality.
In this tour we will tour the Cartagena de Gabo, that full of stories, where each corner has a character and each window has a story to tell, we will visit the houses and squares that appear in their books, like the Portal de Los Dulces where Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza meet, The Plaza Fernández de Madrid where Fermina lives and the Plaza de la Aduana where Florentino dances with the madwoman, as well as the Casa del Márquez de Valdehoyos where Sierva María de Todos los Ángeles lived and the Convent of Santa Clara where she was interned and buried, and the streets and the
atmosphere of the city that is undoubtedly present in each of his works. So much was Gabo’s love and fascination for Cartagena that he decides to build his house in the San Diego neighborhood and leaves the saying before dying that his ashes must rest in the Cloister of La Merced, which at the same time is the headquarters of the University of Cartagena. We finish with a visit to the emblematic Heredia Theater and then return to the hotel.
You will have an English speaking guide included.
