Description
The Totumo mud volcano is an exotic and natural wonder with a summit height of about 20 meters. With its lukewarm and dense mud, it is impossible to sink into the 800 meter deep crater.
After about 45 minutes on the coastal road between Barranquilla and Cartagena, we reach our destination for a unique experience. We access the top of the volcano by a rustic wooden staircase. On top you can plunge into the warm mud (which is said to have “miraculous effects“) and enjoy the healing properties – it is just the best mud pack for your skin. It also gives your body a full relaxing treatment and liberates you from all anxiety and stress. The volcano is surrounded by numerous lagoons that provide a beautiful panoramic view. After bathing in mud, we walk down to the Lagoon of Totumo, dip into the water and get gently, naturally clean again. Back to Cartagena.
